Marco Longmore

Marco Longmore relocated to Hong Kong following his leadership of the successful establishment and opening of Fettes College Guangzhou in 2020 and brings with him over 30 years of teaching and leadership experience.

In establishing Castle Rock Education, Marco takes his wealth of experience to a new role as an international education consultant, providing bespoke support service to international brand partners in British styled holistic education. Supporting preoperational and school running needs, governance, and strategic planning, as well as staff recruitment and leadership coaching for schools in South East Asia and the Middle East.

Before joining Fettes College Guangzhou as Head of College, he had the privilege of working in the United Kingdom at four leading HMC Schools in Edinburgh and London, including The Edinburgh Academy where he had been Rector (Headmaster) of the school for nine years. From the UK Marco moved on to become the Founding Head Master of Brighton College Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, successfully overseeing the development of this leading British school brand from pre-operation to full opening. Establishing the 4th branch of Brighton College globally.

Marco Longmore

Marco studied History at the University of Edinburgh before beginning his teaching career in 1991 at George Heriot’s School, Edinburgh. He was then Head of History and Modern Studies at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh, in 1998 until 2005. His next move was to London, as Senior Deputy Head at Alleyn’s School, Dulwich, before returning to the Scottish capital in 2008 to lead the Academy until 2017. During the period of his headship, The Edinburgh Academy grew to become one of Scotland’s most successful co-educational schools. Through his many years of teaching and leadership roles in UK independent schools, Marco has shown a deep understanding and appreciation of the excellence of a holistic and rounded education. He is enthused and excited to be bring these experiences to a wider audience both here in Hong Kong and across the region.

As well as being focused on school matters, Marco has been an ambassador and leader of discussions in broader educational and political fields. Whilst in China Marco conducted a series of conference talks and lectures across different cities and receive in November 2020, the Sina Education Award, for Influential Educator in International Education of Year 2020. In the UK, Marco was the Scottish representative on the influential HMC Academic Policy Committee and Chair of Edinburgh Heads grouping of independent schools for several years. He has also regularly engaged with local and national political figures in respect to school projects and wider educational discussions. He has been a Trustee of three separate grant awarding educational charities. In moving from Dubai to China and now Hong Kong, Marco is committed to creating premium examples of international education based on the excellence see in the UK’s leading schools but adapted to the needs of local communities and cultures.
